An Olympian and a member of the United States Field Hockey Association Hall of Fame, head coach Laurel Martin completed her sixth season with the Mustangs in 2016. During Martin's tenure, the Mustangs have steadily improved to become one of the top teams in the region. In 2015 Stevenson reached the MAC Commonwealth championship game for the first time in program history and also advanced to the ECAC Mid-Atlantic championship game for the second straight season, a title the Mustangs won in 2014.

There have been 17 all-conference selections under Martin, including the 2014 Player of the Year.

​

Prior to coming to Stevenson, Martin spent 10 seasons as the head coach at Lebanon Valley College where she compiled a 169-50 career record, leading Lebanon Valley to six NCAA Division III Field Hockey Championship appearances, including two semifinal and four quarterfinal berths.

​

Martin led the Dutchmen to a Commonwealth Conference title in 2006, one of seven conference championship game appearances during her tenure, and the nation's No. 1 ranking in 2010. 

​

A two-time NFCA Regional Coach of the Year, Martin mentored 28 All-Region and 15 All-America selections as well as three Commonwealth Conference Player of the Year recipients and three Rookie of the Year winners.

​

The Dutchmen went 19-3 in her last season and were ranked at No. 3 in the final NFHCA poll. The team fell to No. 4 Bowdoin in the third round of the NCAA championship. Her two semifinal appearances came in back-to-back seasons in 2006 and 2007 as Lebanon Valley had a combined 41-5 overall record.

In 2004, the Dutchmen won the title at the ECAC Division III South Atlantic Championship.

A 1991 graduate of North Carolina, Martin was a three-time All-American and played on UNC's 1989 national championship team. In 1990, she was named team captain before competing in the World University Games (Sheffield, England), the Pan-American Games (Havana, Cuba), and the Olympic Qualifying Tournament (Auckland, New Zealand) in 1991.

In 1994, Martin played for the U.S. National Team in the World Cup held in Dublin, Ireland. She returned to the Pan-American Games, this time in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1995 and was a United States Olympian in 1996 in Atlanta.

In June 2004, Martin was inducted into the USFHA Hall of Fame for her years of service on the U.S. National Team.

Martin has coached at numerous clinics and camps and was a nationally-rated USFHA official. She has been a Certified Sport Specific Field Hockey Trainer at both the high school and college levels since 1990 and has also been a fitness instructor and AFFA Certified Aerobics Instructor certified in both C.P.R. and kickboxing.

​

Martin has been a member of the USFHA since 1985. In 1987, she was named as the Pennsylvania Mid-State Top Scholar Athlete and was a High School All-American. She has served as a motivational spokesperson for both the U.S. Olympic Committee and the USFHA.

​

Martin has coached camps or clinics at Elizabethtown College (1998, 1999), University of North Carolina (1991-1998), Duke University (1991), William and Mary College (1996), University of Maryland (1995) and for several high school programs including the Virginia Beach High School All-Star Festival Team (1996, 1997).

​

From 1990-92, Martin was a volunteer coach at North Carolina and in 1993 and 1994, she was a camp coach at the Merestead Camp in Collegeville, Pa. In 1996 and 1997, she was a Cape Henry Field Hockey Clinic Administrator in Virginia Beach, Va., and from 1996-1997 was the head field hockey coach for Cape Henry High School. In 1998, Martin was an assistant coach at North Carolina.
